Prednášajúci: Jennifer Green – is the Director of Sustainability for the city of Burlington, Vermont and is a net-zero energy expert. Based in the Burlington Electric Department, the city’s municipal electric provider, Green works with the team responsible for making Burlington the first city in the country to source 100% of its electricity from renewables. Her work includes various projects and initiatives that are driving Burlington’s transition to net-zero energy in the thermal and ground transportation sectors. Green has taught sustainable development courses at the University of Vermont and has a PhD in environmental sociology.

In 2014, Burlington became the first city in the United States to source 100% of its electricity from renewables. Building on this
significant achievement, in 2019, Burlington set its sights on an ambitious goal – to become a Net Zero Energy city in 2030
by reducing and eventually eliminating fossil fuel use in the building and ground transportation sectors.

This presentation will provide an overview of Burlington’s “roadmap” towards NZE to outline pathways for practical application in Europe. The presentation will discuss the challenges of moving away from fossil fuels in a city dependent on natural gas for heating, the City’s progress to date, and will demonstrate that everyone can participate in the NZE transition regardless of income, home ownership status, or race.
